Our Story

"Rooted in the ancient winds
rising toward the divine
the cedar sings across time"

At the heart of Cedar Echoes lies the enduring symbol of the cedar tree—a towering emblem of resilience, divinity, and connection that spans continents and centuries. Our name and logo are inspired by the Cedar of Lebanon, a sacred and majestic tree woven deeply into the spiritual, cultural, and ecological roots of the Middle East and North Africa.

Across religions and civilizations, the cedar tree has stood tall as a witness to humanity's highest aspirations.

  • In the Bible, the Cedars of Lebanon are mentioned over 70 times, revered as symbols of strength, beauty, and righteousness. King Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem with cedar wood, chosen for its enduring strength and divine association.

  • In the Qur’an, the cedar's essence echoes through Sidrat al-Muntaha—the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -standing at the edge of paradise, where divine revelation reaches its summit. A symbol of spiritual transcendence and purity.

  • The Epic of Gilgamesh (Mesopotamia), one of the world’s oldest literary masterpieces, tells of a mythical Cedar Forest guarded by heavenly forces -representing a threshold between the mortal world and the sacred.

  • In Ancient Egypt, cedar wood was imported from the Levant to build ships and tombs for pharaohs. Its oils were used in mummification, preserving the essence of the soul beyond life.

  • The cedar tree has a strong connection to North Africa, particularly through the Atlas cedar, which is native to the Atlas Mountains stretching across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia and is a vital part of the North African ecosystem, deeply intertwined with the cultural and ecological heritage of the region.

  • Through East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, cedar's symbolism travelled with poets, mystics, and traders -evoking majesty, wisdom, and the human yearning for the divine.

It is this echo of cultures, voices, and beliefs that gives birth to Cedar Echoes—a modern, inclusive, and soulful choir founded in London. At its core are two proud Lebanese visionaries:

Maestro Pierre Khawam,

the Musical and Creative Director whose compositions and musical leadership carry the memory of Lebanon’s musical golden age.

Roula Haidar,

the Entrepreneur and Cultural Director whose cultural passion and innovative spirit give structure and soul to this living idea.

Together, they plant the cedar anew—not in soil, but in song. Through harmonies rooted in Arabic heritage and branches that reach into modern rhythms, Cedar Echoes becomes more than a choir. It becomes a sanctuary of voices, a meeting point of memory and modernity, where the ancient cedar sings once more through each human heart.
